Ready to Learn - Pre-K

Peirce has three Chicago “Ready to Learn” Pre-kindergarten classrooms. Our curriculum is based on the most current research about how children learn. We believe that play is the natural mode of learning for preschool-age children. When children have the opportunity to play, problem solve, and negotiate with their peers, they gain self-confidence and independence which will support academic success throughout their educational careers. We work to develop the whole child by providing activities that engage both the body and the mind to enhance learning. We believe every child has an opportunity to succeed and learn. |
Our classrooms are divided into interest centers where children learn about themselves and the world around them through experimenting, exploring, and discovering. The interest centers include blocks, table toys, painting, writing, art, sand and water, housekeeping, and library.
Each of our three classrooms has a morning and an afternoon class. There is a teacher and a teacher’s assistant with 20 children in each room. The morning class begins at 8:05 am and ends at 10:40 am. The afternoon class begins at 12:20 pm and ends at 2:55 pm.
Applications are available for our program during each spring. They may be picked up in the main office during regular school hours in the spring of each school year or obtained from the Early Childhood “Ready to Learn” website.
Children must be three years of age by September 1st of the desired school year to be admitted to the program. All children must also be toilet trained. New for the 2013-2014 academic school year, the Chicago “Ready to Learn” Preschool Program has been designed to help maximize access throughout the city for all children. The Board of Education of Chicago has implemented a sliding scale fee for school-based early childhood programs. Our program will continue to be offered free of charge for children with special needs, children in temporary living situations, and for income-eligible families including those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. For families that do not fall into these categories, a fee-based requirement may be necessary in accordance with the income of the parents or legal guardians. To view possible co-payment requirements, please visit the early childhood website.
